Since having my own children, I have been overwhelmed by the beauty in motherhood. Not just nursing mothers, but mothers in general. The selflessness and ceaseless hard work I see. The day and night, unconditional love that surrounds precious infants.
I wanted to take a moment to stop and celebrate this. So I had a little idea.
At a time where discussion of breastfeeding is prevalent in social media, whether or not it is acceptable on this platform and in public, my heart just breaks for those mothers who feel forced to hide it, forced to hide such a natural form of mothering. It is a beautiful, bonding, every day experience, sometimes turned into a struggle to keep strangers from feeling uncomfortable.
I have been blessed to be able to share this unique experience with both my children and I am privileged to know a few wonderful mothers who wanted to help me celebrate breastfeeding by allowing me to take their portraits.
So here they are. A little celebration of what it is to be a mother. A little celebration of breastfeeding. Here's to you, Mums!
This is my wonderful sister-in-law, Rebecca, with her eight week old baby boy, Seth Patrick.
This little guy is such a miracle!
If you'd be interested in taking part in a breastfeeding portrait, I'd love to hear from you!
